One thing that’s certain in life is uncertainty.
When should I leave my job to start my business?
How, when and where will I find a loving partner?
Should I bite the bullet and buy my dream house?
While I used to feel uncertainty was a significant hurdle to our happiness, I’ve grown to view it much differently through study. Now I understand its nature and how to move through it. And I realize uncertainty is actually the source of many of our greatest joys in life.
Here are some lessons I have learned about the mysterious friends we call uncertainty.
It’s impossible to score big without it
If you want to excel in life, you can’t keep doing what you’re used to doing. There’s always something different or better for you to do. Even if your life is fabulous, things will get boring without any uncertainty.
So, how do you determine what’s next for you?
Listen to the little voice inside that is telling you what would make your heart sing.
When I attended my first Bob Proctor seminar, for example, I was a very successful banking attorney with no intention of being or doing anything else. I had never met Bob, and I knew very little about him.
However, when Bob asked, “What do you do you really, really want?”, something inside me shifted, and I was shocked (and embarrassed) by what I wrote down:
“I want to be in the inner circle of Bob Proctor’s company. I want to be Bob’s closest advisor and, I want to create a program with him to bring in to the corporations that I have worked with.”
I was embarrassed because I didn’t think I was good enough to do any of those things. I was an attorney, for goodness sake.
I had dreamed of being a lawyer like my Dad since I was a young girl, so the thought of changing careers was terrifying. I kept going back and forth between imagining working with Bob and staying where I was safe—and tenured.
Thankfully, I let the vision of who I wanted to be pull me forward instead of allowing my fears to get the best of me. I assure you, the rewards were well worth all the discomfort I experienced while working my way to my goals.
And, if you want to experience the best of what uncertainty has to offer, you’re going to have to realize…
Your vision of where or who you want to be
is your greatest asset
So, spend time in your imagination each day, picturing all the awesome things that would happen in your life if your dream were a reality. Assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled until your assumption has all the sensory vividness of reality. See yourself as already experiencing what you desire.
If you can do that, you’ll find your world will start to adjust to accommodate your desires.
The problem is, whenever we embark on a journey to follow our joy and fulfill our dreams, our mind wants to know all the details ahead of time….
Where exactly are we going?
How will we get there—and how long will it take?
Will we be safe and comfortable and enjoy ourselves?
Will we succeed in achieving our goal?
However, here’s something else I’ve discovered about uncertainty…
Rather than worrying about or focusing on how, when, and where you’ll achieve your desired outcome, you’ll get far better results if you…
Believe in the incredible
The less you seek constant clarity, and the more you go with the flow of life and have faith in things you cannot yet see, the more you’ll find that fabulous things start to show up in your life.
If you hold the intention for everything to work out for the highest good of everyone involved, and then let go, you allow opportunities and resources to come your way.
You see, you’re dealing with a superior intelligence that is way beyond yours. An intelligence that is not limited by space or time. Trust it and believe your dream will come true.
When you impress what you want upon your subconscious mind over and over, it fills every fiber of your being. It controls the vibration you’re in. And that enables you to receive what the masses say is impossible.
You’ve got to operate with the faith that what you need will come to you when you need it. Not before you need it, but when you need it.
And never try and figure out how it’s going to work; you won’t be able to do it. It all happens according to universal laws.
Here’s the final lesson on uncertainty that I’ll share with you…
Life isn’t meant to be lived perfectly…
but merely to be LIVED
God did not design us to live safely. We were created to live beautifully, imperfectly and in grand fashion.
Napoleon Hill said, “No more effort is required in order to aim high in life, to absolutely demand abundance and prosperity than is required to accept misery and poverty.”
You use the same energy to build success and failure. It’s like faith and fear—both demand that you believe in something you can’t see. Although we are programmed with fear from a very early age, I think you’ll get a lot more fulfillment and joy by taking a shot at faith.
We’re also taught that it’s better to be safe than sorry, but that’s not true at all. If you want to win—as I know you do, you’ve got to lock onto what you want, be willing to move through the uncertainty, and keep going until you get there.
Change and discovery are the core of life. While they are sometimes unnerving and exhausting, they are often exhilarating. Without them, we are bored, complacent and predictable.
So, even if your circumstances appear bleak right now, by focusing on what you want and striving to achieve it, things will quickly start to change for the better. You cannot change within and remain the same without. By law, your circumstances will begin to reflect what is in your heart.
To more and better,
Sandy Gallagher
