We’re just getting started in a new year—and a brand-new decade.
So… have you set inspiring goals for 2020 and beyond?
I hope so, but here’s a sad statistic about goals…
Research shows that only eight percent of the people who set a goal at the beginning of the year actually achieve it.
So today, I want to share a process with you that can help you join the small group of people that will reach their goal for 2020. This process will also set you up to enjoy the decade of your dreams.
Use your untapped wisdom from the 2010s
Before a new year begins, I always review the current year. It allows me to get clear on what I’ve learned and accomplished over the previous 12 months, and that helps me zero in on and where I want to set my sights for the next year.
However, since 2020 is also the start of a new decade, it’s a great time to level up and expand the review period.
Even though we’re nearly a week into the year, it’s not too late to do your review now.
Why should you take the time to do it now?
Because completing this exercise can help you create a far more meaningful and rewarding future.
So, grab a journal and pen. Quiet your mind and think about the past ten years. Then, when you’re ready, create five lists:
• Things you have done that you’re proud of
• Challenges you have overcome
• Things you have learned (be sure to note the lessons that were the biggest game-changers)
• Wisdom you have gained over the last ten years
• The mistakes you made and what you learned from them
Look over your lists when you are finished. Does anything surprise you? Delight you? Inspire you?
When you know the things that have made the biggest difference in the quality of your life, it helps you make wiser decisions as you plan the next ten years.
Don’t underestimate what you can be, do, and have
over the next ten years
You are much more powerful and capable than you imagine.
So, if you had no limits, what would you love to create, experience, or achieve over the next ten years in all areas of your life?
Be as specific and concrete as possible. Envision the best possible decade of your life and let yourself really dream. Think about how you want to feel and what you want to experience. Go big; don’t underplay or underestimate it.
To go there, however, you need to let go of limiting beliefs or old stories that keep playing in your head. Re-evaluate those beliefs and stories.
Remembering what you learned from your lists above and understanding that what you’ve accomplished so far is nothing compared to what you can do should help you believe in yourself more.
Do the work you need to do to let go of all the negative thoughts and limiting beliefs that hold you back now (early in the decade), so they don’t continue to control you.
Commit to living a bigger dream
Every goal or dream that you—or anyone else—has ever fulfilled started with a decision. No significant improvement can take place without one.
Once you have a goal that you really want, you’ve got to declare, “This I will do!” Because making a committed decision to do something instantly and automatically puts your mind on the right frequency to get where you want to go. And if you’re disciplined, your thoughts will stay there, and you’ll fuse with the idea of what you want.
If you don’t make a firm and irrevocable commitment to your goal, a year from now everything will be much the same as it is right now.
And this might surprise you…
You don’t have to believe you can reach the goal.
You just have to believe that there are Universal Laws that control all things—exact laws that always operate in a predictable way.
Get rid of all the tension and the thoughts of “I don’t know,” so you can get in harmony with these laws. If you let the thoughts and energy of your desire flow freely to and through you, it will improve everything with which it connects.
In his wonderful little book As a Man Thinketh, James Allen said, “Your circumstances may be uncongenial, but they shall not long remain so if you but perceive an Ideal and strive to reach it.”
I promise you. If you really want a great 2020 and an extraordinary decade, it can happen. Get emotionally involved with the idea and pay attention. The way will be shown to you.
Are you ready for it?
