When you think of having a happier and more successful life for yourself, what do you see?
Whatever beautiful picture comes to your mind, it’s likely a different image than the one that comes to mind for others.
That’s because perception is a unique interpretation of how a person views a situation. It’s not the situation itself.
Every person views an event, circumstance, or environment in a way that expresses their own beliefs, habits, and limitations.
Fortunately, you have the power to substantially improve any areas of your life that you are unhappy with. As I’ve said many times before, you can create any environment you want.
However, if you’re going to create your own environment and live the way you really want to live, you’re going to have to use your perception and other mental faculties properly.
Perception is your way of looking at something. Let me tell you a story that demonstrates the impact perception can have on your life quality.
On October 21, 1961, a man by the name of Raymond Stanford sat down with me. He put an ‘R’ on a sheet of paper with two ‘H’’s and a ‘W’ beside it.
Ray said, “Bob, let this ‘R’ represent results. The two ‘H’’s stand for happiness and health. The ‘W’ represents wealth. Do you think I’m a happy person?”
I said, “Yes, I think so.”
Ray asked, “Have you ever seen me sick?”
I had to admit that I hadn’t.
Then, Ray asked, “Have you ever seen me without any money?”
“No, I haven’t.”
Then, Ray proceeded to tell me that he thought I was one of the most miserable people he had ever met.
He said, “You’re never healthy, you always have a backache, or a cold or something. And you’re always broke. Why don’t you change this?”
I didn’t really believe I could. I was making $4,000 a year, and I owed $6,000.
Ray said, “You can have anything you want. But you’re going to have to change the way you’re looking at your life.”
“What do you mean?”
Ray responded, “You’re looking at the fact that you never went to school, and you don’t have any business experience. You’re putting yourself down and figuring out all the reasons you can’t change.
“Your problem isn’t a lack of education. Your problem isn’t a lack of experience or money. You’ve got a perception problem. You’re looking at yourself the wrong way. If you would change your point of view of YOU, your whole world would begin to change.”
So, I did what he told me to do. I changed my point of view.
Today, the company that I own does millions of dollars in business. It operates in 47 different countries, and it’s growing every day. And here I am 59 years later with a healthy body and very cheery disposition.
You’re not fixed
I am so thankful that, unlike other animals, you and I have the power to change our environment. We don’t have to blend in with a world that doesn’t support us in being our best. By using our mental faculties, we can create the environment we want.
Don’t settle for your current results. If you’re not as happy, healthy, and wealthy as you’d like to be, I urge you to step back and look at your situation from a different perspective.
Instead of seeing the world the way the masses do, view it—and your life—through an entirely different lens.
One of the best ways I know to do that is to create a customized life script that expands you. Write a script that makes you excited to jump out of bed each morning.
And listen…
You don’t have to be unhappy, anxious, or unhealthy to do this.
Even if you’re pleased with your current life circumstances, I encourage you to shake things up a bit. Build a new model by designing a life script that makes your life even better.
Write a script that changes
how you look at everything
When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
So, think about the things you would love to change in your life. Then, use these tips to create a life script that transforms your perspective to align with what you want.
• Handwrite your script in the present tense, as if you are living it NOW.
• Make it a positive and uplifting vision of your future. Talk about the things you want MOST in each area of your life—physical body, business or career, finances, relationships, intellect, spiritual connections.
• Engage all your senses and include as much detail as possible about where you are, what you look like, who you’re with, what you do, your financial situation…everything.
• See and feel yourself living by this script that is custom made for you by you. The more you feel it, the more real it becomes, and the more powerfully you are attracting it.
• Review your script each day. Writing your life script is not something you do once and forget about it. You should read it every day and refine it as necessary to keep you worked up.
When you write a life script in this manner, it allows you to do more than view your life from a new perspective—it will enable you to LIVE your life from that perspective.
This increases your belief
Once you create a compelling script for your life, you may need to work on your belief that it’s possible.
To do that, read your script out loud (with feeling) and record it. Then, listen to it several times every day. I recommend listening to it when you wake up and again before you go to sleep at night. You can also listen in your car and while you’re getting dressed, working out, or cooking.
With this spaced repetition of new ideas and beliefs, you will change your thoughts and belief systems. When that happens, your actions will change too.
If you’re serious about taking your life to the next level by changing your perception of yourself, don’t just read about creating and using a life script. Please do it now. You’ll be happy that you did.
