I just received this message from a student of mine. I appreciated his compliments, yet I appreciated even more his idea that solves a problem for millions of people each Christmas season.
I hope you laugh and smile about this as much as I did. What a great idea!
Enjoy!
Bob Proctor
Dear Bob,
I started studying your philosophies about a year ago. You shed light on things I’d never considered before. You got me thinking in ways I had never thought before. You opened and expanded my mind and got me thinking along the lines of ultimate possibilities for myself, my family… and for those around me. Your ideas ramped up my creative juices and my ability to make the seemingly impossible happen
As a result, the totally unexpected did happen.
My family has a long-standing tradition of buying a live Christmas tree every year. The entire process of selecting the tree as a family, of decorating it together, and enjoying that fresh smell all season long is a wonderful experience.
For those who also enjoy a live Christmas tree, they know how much of a hassle it is to keep the darn thing watered! Trees are very thirsty when they are first cut. If you don’t properly water them, their needles start falling quickly… not to mention how much of a pain it is to get down on your hands and knees and try to fit a pitcher of water between the branches to water it without spilling!
Last year, I was under our Christmas tree trying to water our tree without spilling. I failed… water got all over my beautiful wood floor.
Bob, at that moment one of your teachings came to mind. So I stood up, went to the basement, got a funnel and a tube and stuck it in the back of the tree. Walla, part of the problem solved. But I still had to check the water level with my finger. So, I ended up adapting an electronic device to it that told me when to water the tree. But it was ugly, so I decorated the funnel so it looked more like an ornament hanging from the tree.
I was surprised when so many people who attend our annual Christmas party told me they wanted one.
The journey from then to bringing a workable product to market this year was a story of overcoming all kinds of obstacles. All through the process, I was met with challenge after challenge. From getting a patent in record time, to hearing from companies interested in licensing the idea that they might be able to have it ready by 2016… if we were lucky.
But I had learned from you, Bob, that nothing could hold me back if I simply applied your principals.
I don’t want to take up your time telling you about every single challenge I had to overcome. The important thing was that in an area where I had no background, no experience… I was able to bring a product to market in less than a year that solves a problem millions of people deal with every holiday season.
Bob, thank you for making it all possible by uncorking my creativity and opening my mind to infinite possibilities.
Lots of gratitude,
Gary Chappell
