Sitting alone in my room thinking about what to do next, feeling that I am on the neutral mode of having nothing to do, no excitement, no fun, nothing but living a routine life that everyone around me was living, which was SICK.
It was after my college graduation ceremony when I asked myself “Should I go through life like everyone else and suffer to be self-made, or should I work in the family’s business doing things I disliked, but making good money?”
All those wonderings were stopped by dad’s advice when he told me, “If you will work with me; you will achieve… but it will be my success; however, if you started your way, it might be a rocky road but you will be authentic and you will REALLY LEARN…it’s your choice son.”
I was moved by his words and so I made up my mind to begin in my own way and see what the future would unfold for me by taking the path of building my own business… I started by working in a hospital’s administration. I came to work under people that weren’t good at all, in fact some of them, had a very bad reputation socially and in their careers.
People kept saying, “Go for the family business… it’s better and safer!!” I was emotionally hurt and I was considering going with their advice. There was a SPECIAL ACT that I learned which was worth it to stay in there and use it to become a better person (I will let you know later what it was).
Then a good offer was presented to me – I took it, for the monetary royalties that I was going to get… and, as I was working, my brother and I started our own business in real estate.
At that time I was living fairly well – for the average person – but when I saw some of my peers living their life fully, doing what excites them, I envied them for what they were enjoying. I was living a life based on tip-toeing to stay away from criticism and risk-taking. I passed up many great projects because I was afraid of what others would say. I refused to buy certain properties because I was thinking about what I would lose rather than what I would win. The worst of all, I was risking my desire by playing it safe.
At this point I had been going through this wave of sadness and gloom for several months. Even when my family, friends, and cousins were planning to travel, I refused to travel with any of them, because I wasn’t motivated enough.
When they say, “God has His own ways” it’s true… After everybody came back from their trips, I suddenly got back my appetite to travel. I had been looking for somebody to travel with, but they were all “back-to-work”, and the only option I had was to travel alone and that is what I did!
As I was boarding an aircraft, I was wondering what I was going to do by myself, nothing to think of. I was out of any outer influence, so I decided for the first time in my life to quiet my mind consciously, and I had a peaceful time on the plane (something that I did not enjoy previously).
When I reached the hotel room I stood in front of a mirror, and this time, I felt different, I really felt like ME; I’ve never stayed with myself for 24 hours in a row, and a smile came over my face.
I still don’t know what it was but I felt better, and I started arranging for an exciting trip. I was really enjoying my time and feeling that I was in a very good friend’s company who previously tried to reach out for me but I was busy satisfying others.
The trip turned out to be my new birth – as I now know who I am.
I’ve learned two great lessons from this experience:
1- Life is too short to not follow your heart
2- When you take good care of yourself, you’ve taken care of everything around you.
Today, I am doing exactly what I want and I am walking on my vision’s track, and I know by doing so I will be able to inspire others to do the same.
…..the SECRET ACT was to always give good to everybody, even when you get bad from them. 😉
